LBMA/LPPM - JOINTLY PUBLISH GUIDE ON THE LONDON PRECIOUS METALS MARKETS


The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and The London Platinum and Palladium Market (LPPM) have jointly published "A Guide to the London Precious Metals Markets".  The guide explains the role and operation of the precious metals markets, the principles upon which they operate, the facilities and products available and the way in which transactions are quoted and conducted.  It also indicates the type of clients for whom the products may be suited along with information covering vaulting and clearing, the regulatory regime and standard documentation.

DGCX - TO LAUNCH PLASTICS FUTURES CONTRACTS
 


The Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange (DGCX) announced on 3 December 2008 that it will launch two plastics futures contracts for Polypropylene (PP) and Low Linear Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) on Thursday 5 February 2009.
The Exchange has approved leading warehouses and Delivery Point Operators.

LME - AMENDS SPECIAL CONTRACT RULES FOR HIGH GRADE PRIMARY ALUMINIUM


The LME issued an announcement on 12 December 2008 advising that it had amended its Special Contract Rules relating to its existing two deliverable specifications as follows:-
  • From 1 January 2010, only primary aluminium with impurities no greater than set out in the registered designation P1020A in the North American and International Registration Record entitled "International Designations and Chemical Composition Limits for Unalloyed Aluminium" (revised March 2007) will be deliverable under the Contract.
  • Primary aluminium, produced to a minimum specification of 99.70% purity with maximum permissible iron content 0.20% and maximum permissible silicon content 0.10% will only be deliverable up to and including the 31 December 2009.



EU REACH - AUTHORITIES PLAN JOINT ENFORCEMENT PROGRAMME


EU and EEA Member State representatives on the Enforcement Forum of the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) agreed on 9 December 2008 to establishing a joint project beginning in Q1 2009 to check company's compliance with REACH provisions.
Their primary focus will be on the 'no data, no market' requirements of REACH.  More than 20 EU Member States, Norway and Iceland will be involved in the project in which they will target manufacturers, importers and 'only representatives' to check whether they have pre-registered and registered substances and supplied safety data sheets as required under the Regulation.
