SHFE - TO LAUNCH STEEL FUTURES CONTRACTS
The Shanghai Futures Exchange announced on 25 February 2009 that it has received approval by The China Securities Regulatory Commission to launch Steel Futures Wire Rod and Rebar Contracts.
A launch date is yet to be announced. It is anticipated that the Rebar Contract will be for Grade III Rebar of 16mm, 18mm, 20mm, 22mm and 25mm diameter, or HRB400 and HRBF400. The Wire Rod Contract will be for HPB235 wire rod of 8mm in diameter.

TFEX - ANNOUNCES THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF ITS GOLD FUTURES CONTRACT
On 2 February 2009, The Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX) officially launched its Gold Futures Contract which is traded electronically and cash settled. It was noted that 74 contracts traded on the day and investors can trade, currently, through 36 TFEX members.

"NYSE LIFFE US" - CHANGE IN BRANDING
NYSE Euronext announced on 10 February 2009 a change in branding of its derivatives business. "NYSE LIFFE" will refer to the global derivatives business of NYSE Euronext as a whole, comprising the Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon, London and Paris derivatives markets and the US Futures Market. However, to distinguish NYSE Euronext's U.S. Futures Market, this will be operated under the new brand name "NYSE LIFFE U.S." with immediate effect.

DGCX - ANNOUNCE PLASTICS FUTURES CONTRACT POSTPONEMENT
The Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange (DGCX) announced on 4 February 2009 that the launch of its Polypropylene and Linear Low Density Polyethylene Futures Contracts for the Middle East and South East Asian Markets is to be postponed. It is understood that these contracts will be rescheduled for launch when industry is ready.

LME - CONTRACT AMENDMENTS TO PRIMARY NICKEL AND PRIMARY ALUMINIUM CONTRACTStract
The London Metal Exchange amended its Special Contract Rules for Primary Nickel to reflect that, with effect from Thursday, 12 March 2009, nickel briquettes will additionally be allowed to be placed on LME Warrant in bags as per the following requirements:-
· Bags must have an even nett weight of 2000Kgs
· The brand name, gross and nett weights must be clearly marked/stamped on each bag.
Primary Aluminium Contract
The London Metal Exchange amended its Special Contract Rules for Primary Aluminium which reflected that from 22 January 2009 the permitted pieceweight range of aluminium ingots be expanded to 9Kgs to 26Kgs
from 12Kgs to 26Kgs.

EU REACH - PUBLISHES DOSSIER EVALUATION REPORT
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published an Evaluation Progress Report , as required under REACH, which should include recommendations to potential registrants so that the quality of future registrations can be improved.
ECHA's 2008 report covers the evaluation of registration dossiers including numbers of evaluations completed. The Agency has commented that it has only examined a small number of low tonnage band registration dossiers for compliance and it is not appropriate for them to make any recommendations to potential registrants currently.
